A Fashion To Kill The Manhattan Mysteries Hard Boiled New York City Fiction Volume 1 Mickey Wyte 9780985293048 Books

It stars a 56-year old Medal of Honor holder turned accountant who is a scarred soul leftover from his stint in Vietnam, and who is now partners in a publishing firm. He somehow has garnered a ton of money but we are not told exactly from where, but he wears bespoke suits, custom-made shoes, made-to-order shirts, and drives a $100,000 Jag. Must be nice.

His young niece is found murdered, the fourth in a series of young models who died from what appears to be an ice pick jab to the brain. And the fourth to be wearing a dress designed by the up-and-coming designer Fargo, and posed in fashion shoot style.

He set off to find the killer, and we get to tag along as he moves through the monied young and annoying set as they hit the trendy night spots and the must-be-seen-at charity dinners.

I bet you think it was the designer, right? You might be right. But you will have to read the book to find out. I really liked it, and although it says “The Manhattan Mysteries”, this seems to be the only one so far. I am eagerly awaiting the next.

A Fashion To Kill The Manhattan Mysteries Hard Boiled New York City Fiction Volume 1 Mickey Wyte 9780985293048 Books Reviews

I found this book hard to put down. The characters were well drawn and interesting. I never guessed the killer and the reason for his crimes so that made it more interesting. And I like the flawed main character. I would definitely try another book by this author.
I enjoyed the writing and the plot. Characters were interesting and memorable a must read for those that love thrillers.
Couldn't get into this. Between the pages and pages of nothing happening and the author's snobbery . . . so boring. Terrible writing.
Five stars +. Mr Wyte writes and you make pictures in your head, it's like mentally watching a movie. I fell in love with Jack and Maria, and could only hope for a friend like Andy. Benny is one of the funny guys. This story takes place in New York, lots of twists,
and turns, action, suspense and murder. Yes, I remember playing stick ball, Jack made me laugh. Great mystery. I look forward to reading more written by Mr. Wyte.
This is excellent hard boiled fiction. It doesn't read like a first novel, it reads like someone well into there craft ! Granted Jack Centaur doesn't live in a mouse auditorium nor off the rack. Sure it just a little different then the other Hard boiled P.I. stories but it's every bit as good if not better. No matter how much you read or your usual authors you're sure to enjoy this one!
Yesterday, coming uptown on the subway I looked up to see the next stop on the sign, "125th Street," my stop was the one before. Not angry, smiling, obviously, I was enjoying my read. The tempo of the book picks up quickly and takes you on a NYC noir ride. I'm near age to the lead character/narrator and felt comfortable in his seen it all, clever, weary shoes trying to keep up in the fast lane occupied by the young wealthy crowd that inhabit the fashion and charity world. Not being an insider, "A Fashion to Kill," gave me a fly on the wall seat wrapped in a well woven mystery. I look forward to Mickey Wyte's next move.
This was a good murder mystery and a quick read. If ever a book screams out for a prequel, this one does. There are several characters who deserve more backstory. For example, I would like to know more about Candice, the first murder victim we encounter in the story. I'd like to know more about the female characters in general. Some of this information was given but any one of the characters could have a chapter or even a whole book written about them.

As I said, it's a good story with a less than satisfactory ending. It ends rather abruptly with limited resolution for the main characters. Good first try for this author.
